The Law of Attraction (LOA), as made world-famous by the movie and the book series of The Secret, has been around for a long time. This page aims to answer the most common questions about LOA.
What is the Law of Attraction?
The Law of Attraction explains that we attract into our lives whatever we focus on. According to the principles of physics, everything around us is made up of ever-changing energy, including our thoughts. By focusing our thoughts, our energy, on the things we’d like to be, do, or have, we will attract those things, experiences, and persons into our lives.
Who discovered the Law of Attraction?
The Law of Attraction was first mentioned by Helena Blavatsky in her 1877 book Isis Unveiled. This work is by many considered a milestone in the history of Western Esotericism.
LOA is simply a name for something that has been known for ages, all around the planet. Buddha taught: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” The Hindu believe: “All the powers in the Universe are already yours.” And Jesus said: “All things are possible to he that believes.”
Other milestones in Law of Attraction history are the publication (1903) of James Allen’s book As A Man Thinketh, Napoleon Hill’s classic Think And Grow Rich (1937), and Maxwell Maltz’s Psycho-Cybernetics (1960). In more recent history, Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret (2006) helped LOA gain popularity.
How to manifest your desire
So how do you ask the Universe for what you want? There are different techniques that invoke the Law of Attraction, but all of those are means to the same end: raising your vibration to match the vibration you will be in once your desire has manifested.
Some popular manifestation tools are affirmations, visualizations, gratitude, acting-as-if, and following your highest excitement.
How do you know if your manifestation is on its way?
When you first begin matching your vibration to your desire, it won’t take long –usually a day or two– before you experience meaningful coincidences, which we call synchronicities. These synchronicities can come in the form of events, persons or things, and serve to encourage you.
Experiencing (part of) your desire in your dreams is also proof that the Law of Attraction is busy manifesting your new reality.
Furthermore, LOA practitioners report that seemingly negative things happen to them before a manifestation takes place. This makes sense as personal growth is needed for you to reach a new level. In this phase, it is crucial not to give up.
Desires ultimately manifest when you let go of them. Therefore, an almost surreal sense of calm around the subject will be another sign that your manifestation is close.
